For the next three days the Dundas Street Gallery space will be occupied by the Tig Gallery on tour! Gallery proprietor Robbie Baird is bringing the gallery’s unique collection to Edinburgh for one weekend only. At the private view we were incredibly impressed with the size and quality of the collection and with Robbie and his partner David, who were both helpful, charming and knowledgeable about their artists.
Among our favourites from the collection are Charina Beswick, an architect by day who paints light and airy marine images which conveyed such clarity and mood through the use of limited colours and shades. Inspired by the Highlands and Tig’s own stomping ground of the West Coast, Charina’s images were a great introduction to the Tig’s collection.
Another stand-out was the work of Charlie O’Sullivan whose colourful, patchwork pieces were a delight to view! Full of energy and personality, Charlie’s pieces really helped bring the space to life and certainly caught our attention! Likewise, Freda Waldapfel’s block, pastel pieces were eye-catching in the extreme and, though simple in nature, really come to life when one observes them for a little while.
In all, the exhibition is a great success and was a fantastic fit for the Dundas Gallery. We understand that the work on display represents only a small sample of the full collection and it has us in the mind to take a trip to the West Coast! We urge you to pop in to the Dundas Street Gallery before Sunday to take in this great little exhibition before it disappears. We also highly recommend taking the time to chat to Robbie and David whose presence made our viewing all the better!
