Thai food has never been so good, with chefs introducing authentic dishes all the time. And it has blossomed at the Thai Orchid, long one of the best Thai eateries in Edinburgh. It’s flourishing with new dishes added to the old favourites.
Take the new Massaman curry. Using the best locally sourced meat is the norm at Thai Orchid and slowly cooking Scottish beef for the Gaeng Massaman Neua is an unqualified success – the tender meat, soft potato and peanuts lapping up the gentle creamy sauce. Meat is showcased again in the new starters: Moo Ping – chargrilled slices of marinated pork – were tender and had a bee-sweet honey note which flowered through the coriander root, garlic and white pepper dressing.
Thai Orchid is just a stone’s throw from the Castle and it’s only a stroll from the Lyceum, Usher Hall, Filmhouse and Traverse and not far from the Festival Theatre. Perfect for a spring visit.
