Balgove Larder, a farm shop just outside St Andrews, is well known for its commitment to selling locally reared, stalked, caught and handmade foods and aims to celebrate the unique and high quality provender Scotland is famed for. The team behind the farm shop also enjoy a reputation for hosting foodie events which celebrate Scottish produce, with May seeing the launch of their ‘Night Market’ – a programme of live music, crafts, street food and of course, high quality produce.
The markets take place from May to September with an additional Christmas Night Market in December, all held in Balgove Larder’s famous Steak Barn. The Steak Barn is a distinctive converted saw mill with walls made from recycled potato crates, complete with a huge wood-fired barbeque at its centre. Guests will be able to choose from a menu of dishes straight off the grill or select snacks from the changing roster that includes some of the latest street food specialists.
Visitors will also be able to stock up on fresh produce from the Balgove Larder’s master butchers and vegetable growers as well as a range of delicacies from other local food and drink producers, including bread, cheese and eggs as well as speciality chocolates and cakes, craft beers to Scottish vodka and local gins. Those looking for some entertainment will be able to enjoy live music from local artists as they take in the atmosphere and sample the produce.
Free to attend, the Night Market will run on a Tuesday evening, once a month, from May-September, 5pm-9pm. The calendar dates are as follows:
- 15 May
- 12 June
- 17 July
- 14 August
- 18 September
In addition to the summer markets, a festive atmosphere will be guaranteed at the final night market of 2018 on 11 December with live carol singing, mulled wine and a visit from Santa.
