Wester Ross has a new cultural heritage hub. Formerly located in an old farm steading, the Gairloch Heritage Museum has relocated to a strikingly redeveloped former nuclear bunker opened by HRH The Princess Royal.

Now open in its new building – a repurposed cold war bunker – the Gairloch Museum is a stunning new art gallery on Scotland’s famous North Coast 500, with a yearly programme of exhibitions, this month featuring Victoria Clare Bernie’s ‘Iron & Wood’ – an installation honouring the ironmaster and adventurer Sir George Hay.
Recently opened in Beauly, Alder Arts Modern specialises in contemporary and 20th century art, such as original lithographs by Salvador Dali, limited edition prints by Paul Cezanne, mixed media works by William Gear and a selection of screenprints by several artists from the 1960s and ‘70s.
It has been worth the wait to see the new West End premises of Union Gallery, which has just opened with a mixed exhibition with works by familiar names such as Joyce Gunn Cairns, Norrie Harman, Keith Epps and Patsy McArthur along with new painters to the gallery, Elaine Spears and El Anderson.
The only resident Scottish artist who is a full member of the Royal Miniature Society, Jane B. Gibson has just opened Cornerways Studio and Gallery in Kirkcudbright.
