It’s photography season at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries. The British Life Photographic Awards (Oct 13-Nov 17) highlights the work of established and emerging photographers of all ages, both professional and amateur. A celebration of British people at work, at play and in the community, the images are in ten categories covering everything from street and rural life to portraiture and Brits on holiday. There is also a special award for the best documentary feature. The awards encourage photographers to elevate the commonplace and familiar into something compelling or fascinating through craft, creativity and discipline. Also showing is an exhibition of work by members of the Dumfries Camera Club (Oct 12-Nov 17) and Masters of Print: The British Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (Nov 1–17), a selection of 59 framed photographic prints in colour and black and white and featuring portraiture, landscape and other genres.
