More and more galleries which carry ‘fine art’ also champion jewellery designers, who bring as much art to their craft as any painter or sculptor. Compiled by Nicola Brooks

The Dancing Light Gallery features jewellers alongside its changing exhibitions. Melanie Muir received a silver merit in the UK Craft & Design Selected Awards for her brightly coloured polymer clay jewellery.
Angela Learoyd has a new collection of 3D silver, gemstone and acrylic pieces.
Hannah Louise Lamb depicts Scottish animals and landscapes in precious metals, including her stag brooches, pheasant cufflinks and pairs of interlocking silver rings which can be cut to represent a customer’s favourite stretch of coastline.

Brazen Studios specialises in handmade jewellery with a contemporary twist.
Director Sarah Raffel makes one-off pieces on site, working with customers on commissions at every stage of the design process, from initial sketch to final presentation.
Works by Ana De Costa, SHO Jewellery, Sarah Herriot, Hannah Livingston and Sarah Raffel are featured in the current exhibition (Oct 9- Nov 6).

A graduate of Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and Inverness College specialising in silver, Joanna Noble features in her first solo show at The Leith Gallery (until Oct 31), which in the run-up to Christmas is also showing hand-painted, framed creations by Michael Peckitt which he describes as ‘wearable art’.

Life Brooch II
The Scottish Gallery features two jewellery makers over the next two months.
For her conceptual show ‘Through Night and Day’ (Oct 6-30), Judy McCaig turns sculptural flying birds into wearable pieces, while Edinburgh College of Arttrained Grainne Morton (Nov 3-27) shows jewellery made by combining found miniature objects with hand-made drawings, punched metal shim and enamel work.

Sheana Stephen, work in silver and gems
Edinburgh’s Sheana Stephen shows her work at The Torrance Gallery (Nov 29-Jan 15).
Sheana’s work represents the sea and garden in silver, gold, pearls and semi-precious stones.
She has produced commissions for HM the Queen, the Royal College of Physicians and Paisley Art Institute.

Patricia Gurgel-Segrillo, Sinuosa ring
Artery Gallery in St Andrews has a large collection of jewellery on permanent display. Featured artists include: Sarah Anderson, who hand-works sterling silver into traditional chain mail, which she then adorns with silver and semi-precious stone clip-ons; Joanne Timoney, whose one-off pieces in precious metals, acrylics and resin have hand-painted slogans and quirky charms; Nicola Tunnah, who makes blown glass beads in her Edinburgh studio; and Brazilborn, UK-trained Patricia Gurgel-Segrillo, who counts actor Orlando Bloom among collectors of her soft silver work.
