MANSFIELD PARK GALLERY
UNTIL FEBRUARY 27
New Colourists
Charles Jamieson, Boat Builders Shed, North Haven
In the 1920s Scottish Art was revolutionised by the work of a handful of painters who later came to be known as ‘The Scottish Colourists’. With their French Fauvist-inspired work they not only redefined the qualities of light and intense colour in Scottish painting, but introduced a new and more expressive brushwork. Scottish painting has never looked back, and successive generations have continued not only to be influenced by but have built on the ‘Colourist’ tradition.
With this show the Mansfield Park Gallery presents a selection of seven contemporary artists whose work exemplifies the spirit of the ‘Colourists’ for a new generation. They are: Michael G. Clark, Charles Jamieson MFA PAI PPAI, John Kingsley PAI, Liz Knox, PAI PPAI, Neil MacDonald, Sandy Murphy RSW RGI and Kirsty Wither.
MARCH 6-20
One, two, three…
Three female printmakers, each with a very different vision and technique, exhibit a series of prints with nature as the theme. Sharon Whyte presents us with the Victorian spectacle of ‘learned animal acts’, recent graduate Rebecca Scott uses linocut to document a fox’s year through the changing seasons, while Fiona Watson exhibits her ‘Aviary Suite’.
