McTaggart’s Children: A Centenary Celebration
The White Surf
This major exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the death of William McTaggart, considered by many to be one of Scotland’s most original landscape painters.
Kirkcaldy holds one of the country’s finest collections of McTaggart’s work, including one of his earliest figure paintings and one of his latest landscapes, presenting a stunning overview of a 50-year career.
Helping Granny
Freelance curator Susanna Hastilow has taken a new line in exploring McTaggart’s work by focusing on the figures in his paintings, many of them children. Interested in the relationship between children and their environment and in the fleeting nature of childhood, McTaggart had a close relationship with his own children and used them as models in many of his paintings.
The exhibition brings together oils and watercolours from the gallery’s extensive collection along with paintings, sketches and related material from public and private collections across the UK.
