FLAUBERT GALLERY
UNTIL JULY 31
Contemporary Scotland – Summer Exhibition
Jen Collee, Midnight, oil on canvas (from
‘Rhythm not Rhyme’)
June and July are key months in the all too short Scottish summer, with rich green foliage, tall trees, fields of yellow and gold, bright blue skies and our often windswept beaches.
Exploring these transitions of light, colour, contrast and movement, Flaubert’s ‘Contemporary Scotland’ exhibition comprises a wonderfully diverse collection of high-flying, Scottish-based artists, including Claudia Massie, Tommy Fitchet, Hendry, Hazel Bowman, Colin Homes, Amy Marshall, Jackie Gardiner, Mairi Stewart, John Dolan, Trevor Jones, Bernie O’Donnell and Camilla Watson (winner of the Kilmorack Award at this year’s Society of Scottish Artists exhibition). Each artist has been chosen for the unique perspective on the Scottish landscape and the vibrant life expressed through their art.

AUGUST 6-17
Jen Collee – Rhythm not Rhyme
Opening her exhibition on the same day as the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Jen Collee is showing new, large scale works equally full of drama and movement and inspired by her passion for the natural world. Her instinctive response explores the connection between painterly mark and the depiction of movement, weight and energy.
From her large equine oils through to her unique Edinburgh street scenes, painting for her has a flow, passion and spontaneity, yet a precision which expresses the light and energy of a physical world which is at once poetic and spiritual.
