Douglas Heggie - The Brine and the Barley
Marnoch
A former head of Art and Design at Keith Grammar School and a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Douglas Heggie retired in November 2009 to concentrate on his painting. He describes his work as “exploring a mixture of random and controlled effects of paint to represent realism through texture and colour”.
Working mainly in oil on canvas, his inspiration is taken from the land and sea of the northeast of Scotland. With an emphasis on colour and texture, his paintings depict rural scenes of farmland and distilleries as well as the rugged coastline and harbours of Moray and Aberdeenshire.
From the charming harbours of Portsoy and Pennan to the rural splendour of Ben Rinnes, Doug’s work not only displays a large variety of images of the northeast, but also features St Abbs, which he describes as “the Pennan of the south”.

Figurative Art in Edinburgh - Oil Paintings by Yuping Li
Yuping Li was born in Beijing, where she studied figurative painting at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. She graduated from Edinburgh College of art with an MFA Degree and is now based in Edinburgh.
Through her work she explores the condition of human beings in terms of different culture. Her most recent works are large scale, dominated by people, buildings and streetlife.
She says: “I’m fascinated by the inherent link between traditional and contemporary life, especially how traditional festivals and customs have influenced people today. The diversity of art is the result of a variety of historical backgrounds and cultural customs, and that is what inspires me to express my love and concern for people and life.”
Yuping’s ‘People Paintings’ are becoming
increasingly popular with collectors drawn by her
cross-cultural aesthetics. Her 12 metre-long
Chinese Custom Painting sold for £18,000 at an
exhibition at Singapore’s Seasons Gallery.

Jamie Primrose: ‘Ethereal Vistas – A tranquil journey through Edinburgh’
Jamie Primrose 'Ethereal vista, 40cm x 80cm, oil on canvas
Once a year, the highly collectable contemporary Scottish artist Jamie Primrose creates a much anticipated exhibition of outstanding new oils and striking Indian inks with the beautiful landscape of the capital as his muse.
Using an impressionistic palette, these sought after artworks are his emotional response to the light and shade of the city’s landscape at dawn and dusk. For the first time he captures a rare, snow-covered Edinburgh, leading us on a serene journey through its streets, skylines and open spaces in winter time.
Primrose’s atmospheric new originals range from glistening early morning light creating shadows, which filter softly through the trees in The Meadows and enchanting vistas of the city from Inverleith Park to glorious winter skylines towards twilight beyond the city’s magnificent architecture looking towards The Pentlands from Arthur’s Seat and Calton Hill.
With past sell-out collections of his Edinburgh paintings to his name among 18 highly successful solo exhibitions in Edinburgh and London since 2003, Primrose has received critical acclaim for his skilful artworks. His work is increasing in value and in demand by an ever-expanding clientele in the UK and abroad.

Fiona Adams-Robb & Robert Galloway
Having travelled the world as a marine engineer, Robert Galloway says he has seen some beautiful sights, but still finds coming home to Scotland’s scenery overwhelming.
He says: “All we have to do is look around and appreciate what we’re blessed with naturally. All seasons have their own traits and atmospheres, which are in their own right gorgeous.”
A serious painter for some 20 years, Robert sketches, photographs and paints on his trips before completing the majority of his landscapes in the studio using watercolours, oils, pastels and mixed media. His work is in private collections in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand and is available as originals and prints. Commissions are also accepted. www.rsgallowayarts.co.uk
