‘Colour Fields’- Paintings by John Nelson
Flower Heads, 30 x 30cm, acrylic on board
John Nelson’s modern Scottish paintings evoke his love of colour in landscape, seascape, still life, figurative, abstract and semi-abstract work.
He explains: “I produce paintings which I hope encapsulate my natural joie de vivre. I work directly onto the canvas with no preparatory drawing. As something emerges, I follow and shape intuitively. Ideas for my paintings come from a variety of sources, although I am particularly drawn to landscape motifs.”
A few years ago John was inspired by a visit to Dawyck Botanic Gardens at Stobo near Peebles. Featuring some of the flora and fauna which may be lost as a result of climate change, 'Colour Fields' reveals his love of nature.
Now living in the Scottish Borders, John has works in private and public collections in the UK, USA, Canada, Europe and Africa.
