Angela Lawrence

This welcoming gallery in Castle Douglas features owner Angela Lawrence’s contemporary landscapes and seascapes, mostly based in Galloway and the Highlands.

Working usually in oil, Angela captures light and atmosphere, often infusing it with a more personal view. Her distinctive style, evident throughout her prolific output, covers a range of genres, from representational to abstract.

Landscapes evoking brooding mountains with shifting cloud shadows contrast with the optimism of distant hills and horizons, transporting us to another place.

In her ongoing series ‘Sea Spirits’, she captures the movement of water, light and colour in depths and shallows. Angela received a Creative Arts Scotland and D&G Visual Arts Award to pursue this theme in the Outer Hebrides, and she continues to paint the sea in close-up as well as coastlines in the Hebrides and her much loved Galloway.

Angela is commissioned internationally and exhibits widely. you can see her work throughout the year at Clience Studio. She will also be participating in the Dumfries and Galloway open studios event, Spring Fling (June 2-5), and is showing in a solo exhibition at the Tolbooth Art Centre in Kirkcudbright (July 25-Aug 5).
