Paul Kenton, Neil Dawson & Lesley Anne Derks - City Focus
Paul Kenton, Harbour Lights
A keen surfer, Paul Kenton lives in North Devon, Working in acrylic and oils, he takes inspiration from cityscapes, cafes, harbours, bridges and seascapes seen on his wide travels. His style has evolved over the past ten years into a free-flowing fusion of various media, capturing the essence of the location rather than what he calls “the fiddly details of what something looks like”, and creating an atmosphere with free shapes, dripped lines and colour.
It was also an extended period of travel which rekindled a love of art for Neil Dawson. Being constantly exposed to exciting, new environments with the time and mind-set to appreciate and reflect on them was a defining experience. Back home, he began painting from the photographs of his travels in an attempt to recapture some of the sights and feelings from his time abroad.
Neil Dawson, Reflections Rialto
Lesley Anne Derks has lived her whole life in Grangemouth, with its oil plants by the Firth of Forth. Struck by the halos of colours and strange glows of the town’s industrial landscape, like a scene from Bladerunner, Derks became fascinated with nightscapes and Grangemouth became the main inspiration for her work. She has now broadened her love of night onto cityscapes.
