AXOLOTL GALLERY
AUGUST 6-30
Young Northern British Artists
Jared Sanders, Loose Lips Sink Ships
Axolotl Gallery’s debut Festival Fringe show is a vibrant exhibition of figurative and narrative art from 2010 graduates of the four Scottish art schools (Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, Gray’s School of Art and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design) and new work by international artists and jewellers.
If you missed the degree shows, this is an ideal opportunity to appreciate the high calibre of work being produced in Scotland. Many of the artists are as yet unknown, but have already been chosen for the Royal Scottish Academy’s prestigious New Contemporaries Scotland exhibition in spring 2011.
Kevin Storrar, The Last Broadcast
Axolotl Gallery owner Derek Butter says: “In recent years there has been a large shift towards conceptual art. Young artists working in other areas have been largely marginalised in their efforts to find a suitable platform for their work. We hope through Axolotl to help provide this.”
Also featured is a collection of jewellery by Jared Sanders exploring themes of love, loss and memory. The pieces are inspired by traditional talismanic imagery, using eclectic symbolism to illustrate the duality of love.
