Following last year’s solo show, Amber Arts is showing new works by one of the gallery’s best selling artists.
Belcampo is a refreshing artist and printmaker who uses the silhouette to distort symbols and traditions with a unique style.
His latest work comprises an intriguing series of ‘Crash’ prints. Screenprints are made from intricate, hand-cut stencils depicting a concoction of imagery based on British figures from the Victorian era. Accompanying this is a more humorous body of work which derives from an Edinburgh Council initiative to clean up our streets.
Italian poet Arianna Ancarani remarks of Belcampo’s work: ‘Whether it receives its impulse from a text, an image or an artistic tradition, (it) reveals an obstinate curiosity in exploring the relationships between living things and the material world around them. It is a free and intimate dialogue with culture, conducted with the lively inaccuracy of approach favoured by the Middle Ages.’
