Amy Copeman - Paris Dogs, Amsterdam Dogs

Amy Copeman, Paris Dogs 1

While working at Edinburgh College of Art in 2006, Amy Copeman frequently visited Amsterdam and Paris to gather casual street portraits of dogs and their owners. The result is a highly contrasting series of photos of faceless people with their dog companions. The backgrounds are filled with interesting details unique to both cities, while the foregrounds explore the relationship between dog and owner. Amy says: “Ultimately, this work is about companionship, the need to love and be loved.”

Each photograph is a hand-printed colour Ctype print which has been printed in the traditional way, not using any digital formatting or printing. The photographs are in editions of 10 and are available framed or unframed. Amy currently lives in the Scottish Borders, where she takes inspiration from the area’s natural beauty to explore the relationships between people and their environment in smaller communities.

Amber Arts is running a range of new printmaking classes for Spring 2010 in the fully equipped print workshop. Contact owner Jill Hodge for details (jill@amberarts.co.uk) or visit the website.
