SETTING
This typically Parisian bistro, with burgundy and black walls and classic French movie posters, is one of the cosiest venues for a romantic meal. Even the staff are native French.
FOOD
The menu is typically French and full-bodied. The mussels, hiding in their shiny indigo blue jackets, with white wine and garlic cream seemed to be a favourite around the entire restaurant.
I selected the classic ‘Steak au Frites,’ cooked to perfection - I say this as a half-Belgian, so that is no mean praise - while my partner’s monkfish and king prawn brochette was equally delicious; the meaty fish was firm, the baby pink crustacea were as sweetly briny. It’s a hard decision when there are so many wonderful dishes to choose from -braised lamb shank, beetroot and apple tarte, chicken supreme in pancetta with sage.
Resistance is futile when it comes to the classic crème brûlée; perfectly set, rich custard with its fragile burnt sugar tile was simply superb. Across the table the raspberry cheesecake with its tart fruit and silken was given a very hearty 4/5.
