SETTING
Beloved by local regulars, this relaxing chill-out café bar by day - gourmet or traditional breakfasts, burgers, salads, panini, coffee, wine - reinvents itself into a classy French Bistro, (bentwood chairs, polished wood tables, candlelight), by night.
FOOD
The eclectic fusion menu balances classic favourites including fish and chips, chicken, Aberdeen Angus steak with Thai curries, organic salmon, pasta and risotto. Expect simple yet inventive cooking starting with a huge fat falafel, crisp salad, tomato salsa, and seriously spicy Thai fishcakes to titillate the taste buds.
My Sicilian cod dish is flavoursome and artistically presented: fresh-from-the-sea flaky fish, smothered in sundried tomatoes, peppers and aubergines with crushed potatoes; this fish seems to have an affinity with Mediterranean veggies. My dining partner enjoys a hearty vegetarian feast of halloumi and char-grilled vegetables. Our plates scraped clean. Then we could not resist homemade lemon tart and banoffie pie.
There is also a selection of gluten free cakes and desserts. This community based bistro café like to feel that they can’t say ‘no’ to accommodate any requirements. With a welcoming, friendly service, super value menus, lively atmosphere, it suits everyone. There’s live jazz Sunday nights from 7-9pm and it is advised to book for dinner. The evening specials change every two to three days, depending on what’s available (ingredients are sourced locally as much as possible and fish is from Eddies). They even serve organic Fairtrade wines by the glass or bottle. Parking on street with restrictions.
